During my K-12 years, I was able to experience Public, Private and Homeschool environments. My time in public school was K-5th grade; my time at a religious based private school was during my 6th and 7th grade years; and my homeschooling was 8th grade until I got my GED.
I think it is easy to forget that public education is still quite young. For many years, the education of children, at least from my understanding and research of history, was done by the mother in the household if a tutor wasn’t able to be hired. Either way, there was a more one-on-one focus on the education of the children in the household.
When I was homeschooled, it was the early days of the online K-12 courses, so I was one of the beta-tester kids for those programs. I enjoyed that format, as it allowed me to get ahead in the class if I wanted, but you just weren’t allowed to fall behind. Further, by being homeschooled, I had more freedom to discover and deep dive into topics and things that were of interest to me. That permitted me to build and maintain a level of curiosity and wonder that I never got to experience with public or private school.
In my experience with the public school side, I found that I was being taught to parrot and memorize, not actually learn. I believe it is because of this that a good portion of the population is unable to critically think or string a couple of thoughts together coherently.
There are additionally all those concerns about school shootings and such; the solution at present is to take your kids out of public school and have them do the K-12 programs online. There is always a concern of getting social experience, which can always be done by joining teams or interest groups – beyond that, there are usually homeschool groups throughout various areas where parents can get together and discuss things to help each other while the kids play or do some kind of group science experiment or something taught by older kids.
In a SHTF situation where there are children around, it is possible that the only option for educating children will be homeschooling children. (see this blog post for reviewing the decision to bug-in or bug-out for your homeschooling plans) Depending on your situation, it may be solely up to you or if your group allows, different subjects are taught by different people with greater knowledge and expertise. Some of that education could be practical things potentially, like blacksmithing, animal husbandry, farming, sewing, home-making, or any number of things beyond the typical reading, writing, and arithmetic. The schooling could take place during certain hours of the day as we currently see in society, but it could very well be education in the moment because the opportunity presents itself.
If you have children of your own or will have them in your group, it would be important to include the potential for needing to homeschool them during a SHTF situation. In such a situation, what are the adults in your group able to teach based on current knowledge and experience? Remember, that if you are in a bug-out situation and are possibly operating nomadically, bringing textbooks with you may not be an option.
What areas of knowledge or expertise are missing from your group?
Create a list or education plan for the children in your group that can be referenced should you need to educate the children over a short or long-term SHTF situation.

As for writing my blogs, I generally just sit and write. Sometimes I do it on paper and then transfer it to the typed form. Other times I write just on the computer.
Generally, I just write whatever comes to mind. Then when I finish, I go back and make edits and re-order things to make it more reader-friendly.
Writing, I have found, is generally made better by just writing and building that skill over time. I believe a lot of the great authors of past and present have a similar experience.
If you are having difficulty writing, I believe I came across some research and such that reading a lot helps with writing. So if you are having difficulty writing in a particular moment, switch to reading instead. It may help you with ideas.
